5 - Canto XIV [Styx and Lethe Now Flow Quiet Between Us] Am I supposed to just let it go? I spent years trying to get you to believe in us. We built a loud machine to make music. Processed counterpoints with magical rhythm. You determined my whole direction. I spent a year broken down, disassociated, constantly falling through some malfunction in my head, and I dreamt skies opening and the clouds giving way. A dream whispering to go back to you, which I did, like a proper lunatic. And we began again. Change is the only universal constant, you would say, quoting the 9th, pointing out how he modulates. And I would respond,
language must be sacrificed if we are ever to communicate anything. And now you’re gone and I’m stuck here with a poor pen and these failing words. I’m wishing I could forget. Willing myself to pull your memories back across the quiet river and keep you alive.
